THE Arbolón 2011

Tonight the festivities begin in Cangas del Narcea with the traditional setting of the Arbolón in Ambasaguas. The San Pedro and El Arbolón Cultural Association plans to leave at 20 h from Sotero bar.

Tradition marks that the young men of the town go to “Steal” the tree on the river bank and carry it on their shoulders to the chapel of Ambasaguas.

Tree laying begins around 01:00 in the morning and consists of “plantar” the tree in front of the chapel so that its crown is higher than the bell tower.

After the laying of the tree, the bravest young men climb the trunk as high as possible to deposit the crown of flowers made by hand by the women of the Peña La Mecha (tradition started years ago by María L’Aire) in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.

NEW ARCHAEOLOGICAL GOODS FOR Cangas del Narcea.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has taken steps to include hundreds of historic buildings in the Inventory of Cultural Heritage of Asturias. In total they have been cataloged 685 historical remains, of which 172 They are located in the municipality of Cangas del Narcea.

Among the most important assets are cataloged Castro de Adralés, and some of the most prominent churches of the council, such as San Pedro de Agüera, Santa Eulalia de Ambres, San Julian de Arbas or San Martin de Bergame. The list also includes the castles of Santa Cruz de Ovilley, Carballo and Roman Arbas; barrows of Rellanos del Coto, Cueto, New source or Carbonin, as well as the forts of Adralés Villar of Indian.

Cultural Days of Wine in Ibias

Next Saturday 11 of June the Cultural Days of Wine in the town of Ibias. They will take place in the Aula de la Naturaleza de San Antolín starting at 18:00 h.

The main objective of the conference is to convey to the general public the idea that the wine industry in southwestern Asturias is not just the continuation of a tradition, but also an economic development resource that is worth betting on.
